  • A&E

Goldfrapp has a new album out, Seventh Tree.  It's a departure from their previous electronic/glam sound, and the cuts I've heard from the album seem to corroborate their declaration that they were aiming for a more subded, quieter, but upbeat sound.  "Happiness" is their first single, but this song, "A&E" (which apparently is what the Brits call the ER) seems to be the first released video.  It's charming, as is the song.  I'm looking forward to hearing more from the album.

  • Ok, so after years of having no interest in YouTube I've finally started to explore it. That had more to do with a lack of interest in stupid pet trick videos than anything else, but the music has finally drawn me in. Specifically realizing that I could track down jpop and jrock using it motivated me.

So anyway, I sat down and listened to Goldfrapp that I know you've been talking about for like a year or more. Overall I'd say I like them, and I totally see how they fit into your music collection. I confess Sissor Sisters probably fits more into mine, but then with the jpop, I'm kinda into one of my usual personal obsessions.

I do like the leaf spirits doing funky moves!

  • I really like the leafy spirits -- that's an awesome part of the video. I will have to see that in full res on a tv sometime...

  • Goldfrapp contstructs well-crafted pop songs that I really enjoy.  Imaginitive and unusual.  The new album is great.  I love Scissor Sisters too, but I think Seventh Tree edges Ta-Dah out in terms of re-listenability.  There's generally a lot in Goldfrapp's music to pay attention to and watch out for, so I'm often captivated by various details.

Miles actually saw them live, and getting him to a live show is nearly impossible.  But, in his own words, he'd see them again live in a heartbeat.  I'm editing this post to add another video from a live show they did, of a song called "Lovely Head" (from Felt Mountain, I think, their debut album)  That they can pull off that kind of a sound live is impressive to me.

  • ok, now the Lovely Head live video I can get into more. That lonely whistle that starts it out is perfect, I've added it to my favs list.
